What is a Warrant Canary?
A warrant canary is a method by which a service provider informs its users that it has NOT been served with a secret government subpoena. If the canary disappears or is not updated, users should assume that the provider may have received such an order.
The concept is based on the legal principle that while a company may be compelled to not disclose the existence of a warrant, they cannot be compelled to actively lie about it. By regularly publishing a statement that no warrants have been received, the absence of such a statement serves as an implicit warning.
How to verify: This page is updated on the first day of each month. If this page has not been updated for more than 35 days, or if any of the above statements are removed, consider your operational security accordingly.
